Protecnium, is actively recruiting a Subcontract Manager to join our team for a major highway construction project located in Atlanta, Georgia. This long-term position is a critical part of our project delivery team and plays a central role in managing procurement strategies, vendor negotiations, and subcontract execution from pre-award through final close-out.
The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in large-scale infrastructure projects and possess strong leadership, negotiation, and organizational skills. You will work closely with internal project teams and external subcontractors to ensure all contractual, financial, and legal aspects of subcontracts are executed in compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.
• Supervising Subcontract Administrators, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to company policies.
• Managing subcontract negotiations, focusing on cost-effectiveness and contractual integrity.
• Enforcing compliance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
• Prequalify potential subcontractors as per the Procurement Plan.
• Issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to subcontractors through the Tender Tool, ensuring all relevant technical specifications, drawings, Bills of Quantities and contract documents are included to obtain fully compliant offers.
• Coordinate meetings between project teams and subcontractors to clarify requirements and facilitate the evaluation of offers/quotations.
• Review subcontractor Requests for Information (RFIs) and respond accordingly.
• Actively participate in value engineering and cost-saving initiatives.
• Prepare and issue technical and commercial comparison sheets.
• Negotiate terms, pricing, and conditions of subcontract agreements, ensuring favorable outcomes for the company and compliance with project requirements.
• Draft and review contracts, ensuring all agreements are clear, comprehensive, and legally compliant with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
• Request all necessary contractual documentation from subcontractors required to initiate and perform work.
• Participate in kick-off meetings with project teams and subcontractors.
• Foster positive working relationships across all project departments to achieve optimal project outcomes.
• Review and manage contract amendments and change orders.
• Provide contract support to operations teams, ensuring subcontractors comply with contractual obligations, performance standards, deadlines, and safety regulations.
• Support project teams in resolving conflicts or disputes with subcontractors, including mediation or escalation when necessary.
• Possess broad knowledge of various construction methods.
• Maintain accurate records of all subcontractor agreements, communications, and project-related documents for legal and audit purposes.
• Support the subcontract close-out process, ensuring all contractual and administrative requirements are fulfilled.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience as a Subcontract Manager in highway construction, heavy civil engineering, or similar infrastructure projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Professional certification in procurement or contract management (e.g., APICS, CPSM, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated knowledge of the local vendor and subcontractor market in the Atlanta region.
• Proven ability to manage complex negotiations and resolve issues with clarity and diplomacy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with tendering platforms.
• Experience with PROCORE, Building Connected, or similar construction management software is strongly preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
