The HS2 project (High Speed Line 2) will connect London with Birmingham in 2026 (Phase 1) and then extend to Manchester and Leeds (Phase 2) in 2033, in a Y-shaped configuration. The line is being designed for a maximum speed of 400 km/h and, once completed, will allow a peak-hour frequency of 18 trains in each direction. The total estimated cost is £56 billion. Phase 1, with a length of 225 km, will have four stations: two in London and two in Birmingham (one at the airport). Phase 2 will be 360 km long and have four stations: two in Manchester (one at the airport), one near Nottingham, and the fourth in Leeds.
Protecnium is participating in the design phase with designers specializing in high-speed rail projects.
