Construction of the Silvertown Tunnel Project:

Protecnium contributes to the ongoing Silvertown Tunnel project in London, enhancing connectivity and sustainability for the city’s transport system.

Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi a Wellsford Highway Construction Project

Protecnium proudly announces the completion of the Ara Tūhono - Pūhoi to Wellsford highway in New Zealand. This significant civil engineering project involved constructing 18.5 km of highway and seven bridges, enhancing regional connectivity. Our dedicated team optimized designs and utilized advanced technologies, including drones, to ensure precision and efficiency. We extend our gratitude to our partners NX2 Group and Acciona for their essential contributions to this achievement.

Protecnium opens new branch in Germany

At Protecnium, we are pleased to announce the opening of our new branch in Germany, further strengthening our international presence in the civil engineering sector. This new location joins our established operations in Spain, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and Norway. Germany’s dynamic civil engineering market, with substantial investments in transportation infrastructure, is projected to grow steadily through 2030.

Construction of the Silvertown Tunnel Project:

Silvertown Tunnel: Transforming London’s Infrastructure and Easing Congestion in East London

At Protecnium, we are proud to be actively contributing to one of the UK’s most iconic and transformative infrastructure projects: the Silvertown Tunnel in London. Since 2022, we have collaborated closely with Ferrovial UK, supplying a highly specialized technical team to support the ongoing development of this vital dual carriageway tunnel beneath the River Thames.

The Silvertown Tunnel, designed to alleviate congestion in East London, is a cornerstone in improving connectivity between Greenwich and Silvertown, while also supporting sustainable transportation initiatives.

Protecnium's Role in the Silvertown Tunnel

As a key partner in this £1.2 billion public-private partnership, led by Riverlinx Ltd. and overseen by Transport for London (TfL), we are delivering crucial technical expertise through a skilled team of over 34 professionals in roles such as:

  • Surveyors
  • Site Engineers
  • TBM Engineers
  • Survey Managers
  • Control Room Engineers
  • CAD Technicians, and more.

These professionals are deeply involved in the ongoing construction process, contributing to the project’s successful progression while adhering to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Why the Silvertown Tunnel is a Game-Changer for London

This state-of-the-art infrastructure is set to:

  • Relieve congestion at the heavily burdened Blackwall Tunnel.
  • Enhance cross-river transport options for commuters and businesses.
  • Promote environmentally conscious transit by incorporating dedicated bus lanes and toll systems to manage traffic and reduce emissions.

Aligned with TfL’s sustainability objectives, the tunnel represents a bold step toward a greener, more efficient transport future for London.

Sustainability and Innovation at the Core

The Silvertown Tunnel Project showcases cutting-edge engineering and sustainable practices:

  • Dedicated Bus Lanes: prioritizing public transportation to minimize environmental impact.
  • Toll implementation: encouraging the use of greener transportation alternatives while managing traffic flow.
  • Advanced techniques: employing innovative construction methods to meet environmental goals.

A Milestone for London’s Infrastructure

While still in progress, the Silvertown Tunnel marks a major leap forward in modernizing London’s infrastructure. By easing cross-river congestion and promoting sustainable urban development, the tunnel is poised to deliver long-lasting benefits for residents and businesses in East London.

Acknowledging Collaboration and Partnership

We extend our gratitude to Ferrovial UK and all stakeholders contributing to this ambitious project. The ongoing success of the Silvertown Tunnel demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing urban challenges and driving progress in infrastructure.

Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi a Wellsford Highway Construction Project

Discover our latest project in New Zealand

We're excited to share that we've completed another big project in our civil engineering project portfolio. As an international company specializing in technical and engineering services, our mission is to bring innovative solutions to large scale projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

Our latest achievement, the Ara Tūhono - Pūhoi to Wellsford Highway, involved the construction of 18.5 kilometers of new highway, featuring 4 lanes and 7 bridges. Over six years, our expert team worked to deliver a modern, safe infrastructure that improves regional connectivity and significantly reduces travel times. Key roles in the project included a Quantity Manager, CAD Technician, Survey Manager, and Site Production Engineer, who all contributed to optimizing design, minimizing bridge construction, and increasing earthworks.

The use of drones was essential in monitoring earth movements, ensuring precision and efficiency. This accomplishment was made possible thanks to our collaboration with NX2 Group and Acciona, whose commitment and expertise played a crucial role in this project’s success. The project highlights our collective achievement in delivering infrastructure that enhances connectivity across New Zealand.

Protecnium opens new branch in Germany

New branch in Germany

We are pleased to announce the opening of our new branch in Germany, further strengthening our international presence. Protecnium has commenced operations on its first construction project in Germany, providing surveying management services and technical civil engineering services (planning). This expansion adds to our permanent presence in countries such as Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Norway, and Ireland. The establishment of our German branch underscores our commitment to continuing our active participation in civil engineering projects on a global scale.

Germany is a benchmark in the field of civil engineering, with a sector that has experienced dynamic growth in recent years. Infrastructure investments have been particularly significant, with cumulative growth exceeding 13%, outpacing the construction sector as a whole. In 2020, the country invested €44.4 billion in civil engineering, primarily focused on transportation infrastructure, such as roads and rail networks.

The future of the German civil engineering market is promising, with projected growth between 2023 and 2030. Revenues are expected to increase from $256.2 million in 2023 to $299.3 million in 2030. The planning and design segment remains the most important, while construction is the fastest-growing area.

With our new branch, at Protecnium we hope to contribute to the growth of the sector. We are prepared to offer our specialized technical team and continue supporting civil engineering projects in Europe and globally.
